Pillivuyt — one of the world’s oldest porcelain producers

Can you pronounce the name? It’s alright, we can’t do it either, but Pillivuyt is a fantastic story about unique products that go way back to the time, where Napoleon was on the run and Beethoven was alive. Pillivuyt has been producing and shaping beautiful and resilient porcelain for everyday use for 200 years. It is the right addition to your dinner table that screams quality. Dishes, bowls, plates, cups and jugs from Pillivuyt lift the visual impression of your food in a way that is difficult to find in other places. It is porcelain of high class, and you should hop on board if you want top quality at home on the dining table.

Right from the start of the company, Pillivuyt has had a philosophy about creating and shaping beautiful, durable and world-class porcelain. It is craftsmanship that lives up to quality demands and that has made Pillivuyt into products of a special mould. All plates, dishes, bowls and service are made in collaboration with the branch’s most passionate and great cooks, so the porcelain lives up to the highest standards, no matter the function, durability and design. Pillivuyt is made of a rare hard glaze, which makes the porcelain extra resistant, in case something happens.

A young Schweizer with big dreams

In 1818, a young man walked in through the door in an old brick factory. He had one goal. To buy. Jean Louis Richard Pillivuyt, who was of Swiss origin, was a man with dreams, who later in collaboration with his son Charles made history. In the heart of France, in a little village near the wine area Sancerre, the porcelain giant was born. The plan was not to produce brick, but the finest porcelain that was going to the French kitchen and the better bourgeoisie. Today, Pillivuyt is for all classes, fine or not. You can easily eat breakfast out of Pillivuyt porcelain in your pyjamas without getting any looks.

Porcelain back then was an extensive process, but the placement of the brick factory gave the best conditions for the production of porcelain of a special mould. To warm up the oven, they were endowed with the woods in Sologne region. There was enough wood to create heat. The rivers and canals in the area brought water for production. The already strong infrastructure with big transport ways made it easy for Pillivuyt to get access to kaolin, which is the most important element in production of porcelain. The adventure has begun.

Only 5 years went by when Jean and Pillivuyt got their first design prize, and it happened in a place as grand as New York. 7 years after Pillivuyt’s first big prize, the son Charles came into the company, and in 1854, Charles Pillivuyt made a new factory in Mehun-sur- èvre. That is where the porcelain giant still operates today.

The philosophy of creating the greatest porcelain still reigns today. Pillivuyt is kitchen equipment of the highest quality, which will satisfy you just as well as it satisfies professional cooks in the whole world.
