The Fall of the Roman Empire is a 1964 American, classic blockbuster film directed by Anthony Mann.
Approx. year 180 AD, Emperor Markus Aurelius (Guinness) is dying at the age of only 58 years. He even wants his foster son Livius (Boyd) as his successor instead of his carnal son, Commodus (Plummer), whom he does not have sufficient confidence in.
Unfortunately, the emperor dies before the succession is officially changed, so Commodus becomes emperor anyway. Unfortunately, he spends more time continuing the power struggle with Livius than securing the kingdom's continued existence, and thus the largest single kingdom in world history is suddenly on a very dangerous course.
